Thank you for all of the support you’ve shown Sacajawea Elementary School and its staff, students, and families. And for all who have donated time, money, snacks, etc., we appreciate you so much! The Garden and Outdoor Learning Space project is underway! The formal Groundbreaking took place on Monday, November 13th, and construction is in progress. The initial construction is part one in a series of steps. Additional steps will include filling out the space with seating and raised garden beds.  The plan for Sacajawea's Garden & Outdoor Learning Space LOOKING FORWARD  Scholastic December 2023 Book Fair The Book Fair is almost here! Next week, December 4th through 8th, students will have access to the Book Fair at lunchtime. After-school shopping will be available on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. To simplify your child’s experience, you can set up an eWallet here. And a big, fun highlight of Book Fair week: Out-of-this-World STEM Night! Join the fun on Wednesday, December 6th from 4:30 p.m to 6:30 p.m. The Rose City Astronomers will bring some cool astronomy tools and artifacts for students to check out. We have some other special guests that will be SO much fun! We still need volunteers, both for the Book Fair and for STEM night. Check out the opportunities and sign up here.  “Mixed Bag” December PTA Fundraiser Have you checked out the “Mixed Bag” fundraiser? Flyers went home in backpacks at the start of the week. Offerings include bags, treats, eco-friendly kitchen tools, and more. Check out the full selection of items available online! Hi Skyhawk families! It’s November! Can you believe it? We’re quickly nearing the end of 2023! November seems to shift us toward a focus on gratitude–not only the Thanksgiving holiday and all its preparations, but also a softer focus on being grateful for the things in our lives. In this first PTA newsletter of the 2023-2024 school year, I want to call out a couple of the great things about our Sacajawea Elementary community. Speaking with a mom friend who has children around the same ages as my boys, I mentioned that my son was thrilled to be a part of Sacajawea's Sewing Club! We discussed a few of the different fun after-school activities at Sacajawea: the Culture Club, the Harry Potter Club, the Chess Club! She asked, “Wait! Where do your kids go to school? This a public school?” Our school, its teachers and staff, and even the PTA, support these amazing programs that Skyhawk students adore. And my family, for one, is very grateful! November 3: Sandwich Day November 6: Play Paper Airplanes Day November 9: Play Games with the Family Day November 13: World Kindness Day November 14: National Pickle Day November 15: America Recycles Day November 19: Do Something Nice for the Elderly Day November 23: Thanksgiving Day The Month In Review: October 2023Staff Appreciation Potluck  Thanks so much to all who donated time, food, or beverages for the Staff Appreciation Potluck on Parent-Teacher Conference Day, October 19th. It was a tasty-looking spread, and many members of our Sacajawea staff expressed their appreciation! The Harvest Festival  Sacajawea’s annual Harvest Festival was a blast! Thanks to all who attended the event! A special thank you goes out to the nearly 50 volunteers (parents, PTA members, and school staff) who helped make it such a fun night! The Harvest Festival also allowed a great start to 5th Grade fundraising, with the Snack Shack raising nearly $600! As you may know, each year the outgoing 5th-grade class enjoys an End-of-the-Year party, with each outgoing student getting a special T-shirt along with the event. The outgoing 5th-grade class also purchases a legacy gift for the school! For example, last year the 5th-graders’ legacy gift was the picnic table under the solar panels beside the pick-up area. The Snack Shacks at the Harvest Festival and Spring Carnival, with a few lunchtime Snack Shack events during the year, help provide this funding. Skyhawk Spirit Wear  We’re SO excited about the 2023 Sacajawea Spirit Wear! Thanks to all who ordered! Orders will be delivered to the school in a few weeks, and we’ll provide updates as the time nears! Looking ForwardScholastic Fall 2023 Book Fair  The Scholastic Book Fair is coming! December 4th-8th! We’ll provide updates as the time nears! We'll need parent volunteers to help with the book sale, both PTA members to help with cashiering, and volunteers to help students as they shop. As the Book Fair approaches, we’ll post sign-up information on social media and our website: http://sacpta.com/help Outdoor Learning Space/Garden Project  Ms. Baybado showing off the future home of Sacajawea's outdoor learning space and garden! On October 10th, the Sacajawea PTA voted to move forward with the installation of an outdoor learning space and garden area on the Sacajawea campus. After reviewing several bids, the group voted to move forward with Vulcan Construction on the project. Construction will begin this Fall in the area west of the school’s parking lot. Depending on the speed of progress, the space may be ready for classroom use in Spring 2024. More to come on this exciting project! Rewards Programs There are several shopping Rewards Programs that benefit our PTA, and allow us to help fund school equipment, activities, and enrichment programs. To participate, you don’t have to spend extra or give up your store rewards points (Fred Meyer). Using your grocery and holiday purchases to help our school is actually pretty easy!
